Honda Cars Philippines said Wednesday it expects to sell 300 units of the 6th generation CRV each month, with the first CR-V 2.0 RS e:HEV E-CVT full hybrid variant representing 30 percent of the projected sales.

The all-new CR-V debuted Wednesday at the Grand Hyatt Manila in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. “We are looking at growing the brand faster than the market. And with the launch of the All-New CR-V and the best-selling BR-V, we are optimistic we will see improved sales by the end of the year,” said company general manager for sales Louie Soriano.

Honda said pre-selling numbers showed more than 200 units were pre-ordered for both the new CR-V petrol and hybrid variants.

Honda’s venture into the electrified cars platform stems from the goal of realizing carbon neutrality for all products and corporate activities by 2050.

“We want our hybrid line-up to be distinguished as full hybrid as it built to perform three driving modes –electric, petrol and engine,” Soriano said.

Honda PH launches hybrid variant of CR-V

MANILA, Philippines – Gogoro electric scooters – which have become massively popular in Taiwan – will soon be coming to the streets of Manila later this 2023.&nbsp;

Ahead of the commercial launch, Globe’s 917Ventures Incorporated, Ayala Corporation, and Gogoro Network have joined hands to form Gogoro Philippines. The joint venture, executed on Thursday, August 24, will allow Gogoro to steadily set up its presence in the country.&nbsp;

The agreement will cover the importation, sale, distribution, operation, management, and maintenance of Gogoro’s two-wheeled electric scooters.&nbsp;Gogoro Philippines will also handle the battery swapping technology, battery swapping stations for the e-scooters, and after-sales services business in the Philippines.&nbsp;

The agreement also allows the importation and distribution of other e-scooter brands that are compatible with Gogoro’s battery swapping stations.&nbsp;

Globe’s wholly-owned subsidiary, 917Ventures, will own 49% of Gogoro Philippines. Ayala Corporation will have a 21% stake in the company while Gogoro Network, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Gogoro Inc., will own the remaining 30%.

“Gogoro is Globe’s entry into the climate tech industry through 917Ventures Inc. The official signing of the joint venture is a big stride in our goal to provide eco-friendly transport that places at the forefront environmental stewardship and mobility for businesses and individuals,” said Globe president and chief executive officer Ernest Cu in a statement.

The e-scooters have gained success in Taiwan, where it is used by nearly 550,000 riders. Gogoro’s system also allows users to quickly switch drained batteries with a fully-charged one at its battery swapping stations, addressing the problem of&nbsp;<a href="https://www.rappler.com/technology/automakers-double-spending-evs-batteries-2030/">slow-charging electric vehicle batteries</a>.&nbsp;

Currently, Gogoro maintains 12,000 battery swapping stations across 2,500 stations in Taiwan. According to Gogoro, its battery swapping stations outnumber gas stations in some Taiwanese cities.

In the Philippines, an initial batch of 100 Smartscooters, 400 smart batteries, and seven GoStations arrived earlier, in February. The country’s first GoStation was unveiled at Globe’s Taguig headquarters in April 2023. The e-scooters are currently being piloted by Globe employees.&nbsp;

Gogoro e-scooters are coming to the Philippines in 2023

MANILA&nbsp; -The manufacturing arm of conglomerate Ayala Corp. and California-based Zero Motorcycles inaugurated the country’s first high-powered e-bike manufacturing plant in Laguna that is expected to generate annual sales of about P3.5 billion.

Ayala’s Integrated Micro-Electronics Inc. (IMI) and Zero earlier sealed a partnership to build a “global base” in the Philippines to meet rising demand for electric motorcycles.

&nbsp; “The strategic manufacturing collaboration between the two companies will help address the global demand for high-powered motorcycles and will increase access to the world’s full-sized all-e-motorcycles, with a projection of about 16,000 bikes per year in 2025,” Ayala said in a statement on Friday.

Zero Motorcycles was conceptualized in a garage in Santa Cruz, California. It makes high-performance electric motorcycles that cost at least P1 million each.

The Laguna plant, which will assemble Zero’s motorcycle and batteries, will employ at least 200 workers.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday was led by IMI CEO Arthur Tan, Zero Motorcycles CEO Sam Paschel, Deputy Chief of Mission of the US Embassy in the Philippines Heather Variava and Governor Marjorie Ramos-Samaniego of the Department of Trade &amp; Industry–Board of Investments.

“The partnership will further strengthen our firm commitment in carrying out the development of EV (electric vehicle) ecosystem in the Philippines while securing a greener future for Filipinos,” Tan said in the statement.

“IMI is uniquely positioned to have both the competency of electronics manufacturing as well as e-bike assembly under one roof,” he added.

Paschel said the Laguna facility was an ideal location to “build a global base.”

“This complements IMI’s manufacturing and supply of [electric vehicle] chargers which are currently integrated and installed by Greenstrum in more than 50 sites across the country,” he said.

“With Zero and IMI together, there is no partnership or set of brands in the world that is in better position to take advantage of this transformation and to lead and reshape how two-wheel transportation is going to happen,” Paschel added.

During its annual stockholders’ meeting on 8 June, the company said it aims to break ground later this year on its Nueva Ecija solar expansion project with a total planned capacity of 4GW which will be controlled by the company. This would make it the largest solar farm in the world, according to SPNEC.

The project expansion will be located in the same region as its 500MW solar plant already under construction in the northern region of Luzon. The entire project – including the 500MW portion already under construction – comprises over 3,500 hectares of land acquired or being acquired.

The solar farm will begin commercial operation in 2026. It will contribute to the Philippines’ increased solar capacity in the coming years. PV Tech reported that the Philippines boasted 13GW of solar projects in the pipelines as of March 2022, a tenfold increase from the 1.3GW registered in March 2021.

“We have ongoing discussions on shareholding arrangements in certain of our projects, to find solutions that will benefit all parties,” said SPNEC’s CEO Leandro Leviste, adding: “Out of deference for these discussions and respect to our partners, we will not yet elaborate, other than to say that: We believe that it is in SPNEC’s interest to invest in projects where it has a controlling stake, and that SPNEC is best served by allocating its capital to projects where this is the case.”

Moreover, the majority of the proceeds of its capital raises have been invested towards the project, as the company has been consolidating land and permits for it since 2016, when SPNEC applied for the first Department of Energy solar energy service contract.

The project will also support the development of over 60km of transmission line to connect to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines’s substations which supplies the Greater Manila Area.

Overall, the project’s total capacity would reach 4GW of solar power, nearly doubling the current solar farm, Bhadla Solar Park in the region of Rajasthan, India with a 2.2GW capacity. The project will also nearly treble the Philippines’ current installed solar capacity of 1.4GW at the end of 2022, according to SPNEC.
