Southeast Asia’s largest car e-commerce platform&nbsp;<a href="https://www.carsome.my/">Carsome</a>&nbsp;is open to new funding from potential strategic investors, its co-founder and group CEO Eric Cheng told&nbsp;Reuters.

Cheng said the company is looking for strategic investors whose “businesses are able to add value to what we are doing, be it on car trading, financing or insurance.”

He told&nbsp;Reuters&nbsp;on the sidelines of the Forbes Global CEO Conference in Singapore. Last year, Carsome has won one of Malaysia’s first batch of digital bank licenses, as part of the consortium led by KAF Investment Bank. Cheng earlier told TNGlobal that the consortium plans to launch its digital bank&nbsp;<a href="https://technode.global/2023/05/30/kaf-carsome-consortium-targets-to-launch-digital-bank-as-early-as-year-end/">as early as year-end or early next year</a>.

Carsome is ready for an initial public offering (IPO) but is in no rush to list, Cheng told&nbsp;Reuters.

“We haven’t really set a right timeline or window,” he said, adding the company was also open to a dual-listing.

“We need exchanges that appreciate the business that we’re building,” he was quoted as saying. “We need that exchange to be able to also provide enough liquidity.”

Carsome was valued at $1.7 billion in its fund-raising round early last year, when it completed its $290 million Series E round. The financing round then was jointly led by Qatar Investment Authority (QIA), 65 Equity Partners (65EP) and Seatown Private Capital Master Fund (Seatown). The round also saw participation from investors such as Mediatek, Sunway, Gokongwei Group, YTL Group, and Taiwan Mobile.

The Malaysia-headquartered unicorn has hit operational profitability in the first quarter of this year and is expected to achieve its first group-wide profit or break-even before year-end, Cheng reportedly said.

Carsome has become Malaysia’s first tech unicorn as part of a share-swap deal that take a stake in iCar Asia in July 2021.

Founded in 2015, Carsome has expanded into Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore and recently in the Philippines. It works with 20,000 dealers and has an average of 15 million monthly visitors across its platforms, according to its website.

In Southeast Asia, Carsome competes with Singapore-based Carro, Indonesia’s OLX Auto and Carousell Auto Group.

Carsome is said to be delaying its dual listing plans in Singapore and the US on concerns that deteriorating macroeconomic conditions could dent its valuation,&nbsp;Bloomberg&nbsp;reported in June last year. The tech unicorn was expected to raise about $300-400 million at a valuation of about $2 billion for the IPO on NASDAQ, according to earlier reports then.

Malaysia's Unicorn CARSOME Open To New Funding, Open To Dual-Listing

Volvo Trucks Malaysia has launched its line-up of fully electric, heavy duty prime movers in Malaysia today, comprised of the FH, FM and FMX model lines.

The Malaysian market launch also marks the Southeast Asian market debut for the EV prime movers, and thus Malaysia is the first country in the region to receive the FH Electric, FM Electric and FMX Electric models. Integrated logistics provider Swift Haulage Berhad are the first adopters for the electric prime movers from this newly-launched range.

The Volvo electric prime mover range is powered by an electric powertrain comprised of two or three motors producing up to 490 kW (666 PS) and 2,400 Nm of torque depending on application, with battery capacity ranging from 180 kWh to 540 kWh from two to six battery packs.

Transmission is via a 12-speed I-Shift gearbox – as on Volvo’s combustion-engined trucks – across all three model lines. Power take-off (PTO) applications for the FH Electric, FM Electric and FMX Electric models can be mechanical, electromechanical or electric.

Charging times to a full charge are 10 hours with 43 kW AC charging via a Type 2 connection, or 1 hour 55 minutes at 250 kW DC charging via a CCS2 connection, offering up to 300 km of range at 44 tonnes gross combination weight (GCW); these figures are applicable across all three FH Electric, FM Electric and FMX Electric models.

Volvo Trucks cites independent tests as having found that an FH Electric can potentially use 50% less energy compared to an equivalent FH diesel-powered prime mover, under similar driving conditions.

Available configurations are 4×2, 6×2 and 6×4 axle layouts; all three model lines feature air-suspended axles. The FH Electric, FM Electric and FMX Electric models feature an aerodynamic cab design for reduced wind resistance and therefore optimised battery range. The range is visually identified by Volvo Trucks’ signature V-shaped LED lights.

Inside, the Volvo electric prime mover range features Dynamic Steering for additional assistance in steering the truck, and driver instrumentation features a 12-inch high-definition display with chrome ring surround and halo lights for ease of viewing and thus improved safety, says Volvo Trucks.

This is complemented by a nine-inch side display that serves as the hub of the vehicle information system, which is controllable by the driver via a combination of touch controls and buttons on the steering wheel, providing the driver with a safe and and convenient way of interacting with the vehicle’s systems, Volvo Trucks added.

Among the safety features on the range of electric prime movers are side collision avoidance support, which is a type of blind spot monitoring for trucks; this uses radar to monitor areas to prevent collision with other vehicles in the truck drivers’ blind spots when changing lanes.

As for pricing, Volvo Trucks Malaysia won’t be drawn on an exact starting figure as the nature of truck fleet orders and customisation packages make pricing difficult to establish, but can reveal that a very broad estimate for the Volvo FM Electric with a six-battery pack will be in the region of RM2 million.

iMotorbike has secured US$4.2 million since its pre-seed funding round.

Founded by Gil Carmo and Sharmeen Looi, iMotorbike enables users to buy and sell preowned motorcycles. With connections of 5,000 dealers across Malaysia and Vietnam, it also provides financing options, insurance and road tax. In 2022, the firm generated over 2,500 transactions with over US$3.5 million in total revenue.

iMotorbike has 170 inspection points, six days return, six months warranty, countrywide delivery and a bundle of finance, road tax and insurance.
