Malaysia’s Gigi Coffee reaches 100 stores with Kuala Lumpur outlet

Selangor-based Gigi Coffee has reached its 100-store milestone in Malaysia with a new outlet at the Pavilion Kuala Lumpur shopping centre.

Founded in 2019, Gigi Coffee primarily caters to on-the-go trade and has a strong presence in shopping malls.

Part of a new wave of digital-first coffee chains emerging in Southeast Asia, including ZUS Coffee, Jago and Flash Coffee, Gigi Coffee has a strong focus on pick-up and encourages customers to order and pay via its app. 

Gigi Coffee's new store deploys its smaller kiosk format, which is designed to optimise speed of service for takeaway orders.

Pavilion Kuala Lumpur is a sprawling 1.7 million square foot shopping mall containing more than 700 retail units, many of which are international branded coffee chains. Starbucks, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, % Arabica and Paris Baguette, as well as domestic brands Artelier Coffee and Dome Café, all have a presence in the fashionable retail hub, with UK boutique café group EL&N also set to open later this year. 

World Coffee Portal forecasts the total Malaysian branded coffee shop market will exceed 2,775 outlets by 2025.
