Press releases are a reliable tool for attracting media coverage to achieve the PR team's goal, whether it is to increase brand awareness, generate leads, attract investors, or other objectives.   

New businesses typically issue press releases with the goal of increasing brand awareness. This can help new businesses reach a wider audience that can be converted into customers.  

How Does a Press Release Increase Brand Awareness? 

Brand awareness is built through brand recognition and brand recall. After that, a brand can be at the top of the audience's mind. They will remember a brand for a product category. Here is how press release increases brand awareness: 

1. Press Release Spreads the Information 

By publishing a press release, you can spread important information about your company. Do your best to place your press release in a media outlet with a wide reach. At first, it may not be easy to get published in major media outlets. 

But at least find one with a wide reach. You can measure it by its rank in search engines. If its website always appears on the first page of searches, it means that its reach is quite wide. This way, people can recognize your brand by seeing your logo, name, slogan, color palette, packaging, mascot, and more. 

2. Press Release is Trustworthy 

A media outlet's website is a trusted website. So, when a business is featured in that website, the audience will tend to believe all the information about that business. This way, the audience of that media outlet will recognize your business and trust it as well.     

3. Press Release Helps Audience Recall

Brand recall happens when people remember the brands without any help. This shows a strong association between the brands and the product category. E.g.: If someone says "laptop", you will remember Toshiba, HP, Lenovo, and ASUS. 

You can do this by mentioning the product category several times in your press releases. This way, the audience will remember your brand as one of the products in that category. 

4. Press Release Generates Buzz 

Press releases are reliable for generating buzz and excitement toward new businesses, products, or services launched. If the press release is executed properly, it will persuade the audience to try the new product or service.    

5. Press Release Indirectly Helps Your Business Become a Leader 

Before the press release is published, remind the journalist (who will publish it) to link it to one of your pages. This will give your website a high-quality backlink because it comes from a media outlet. 

The more quality backlinks you get, the higher your website will be ranked in search engines. A highly ranked website indicates its authority and credibility, which makes your business the leader in your category.     

Of course, you also need to create and execute an attractive and successful public relations campaign to become the leader. However the backlink from the press release also plays an important role in this process.
