Public relations in a company or institution or organization in general has the idea of personal selling. Therefore, it is interesting to discuss what is personal selling in public relations.

Personal selling by definition is selling personal value to others directly. This action is carried out by a salesperson who aims to convince consumers to buy products or use the services offered.

This promotional method has been done all along and has become one of the most effective sales methods. But it is also necessary to know the meaning of personal selling in the field of public relations.

The Meaning of Personal Selling in Public Relations

Before understanding personal selling in public relations, it is necessary to first understand public relations. Public relations is a communication activity that aims to build a good image of an organization, company, institution, agency, or body to the public.

Public relations is very functional to increase other people's trust in a product or service provided by an organization, company, institution, agency, or body that uses a public relations team or applies public relations science.

Then personal selling has been mentioned as the definition of selling directly. This activity is often applied because it is more memorable to buyers.

In the field of public relations, personal selling has its characteristics. Personal selling in public relations has an object, namely a product or service provided by the organization, company, institution, or agency.

This includes selling activities, introducing and persuading buyers to be interested in a service or product. The target is that consumers will use or buy the services or products being sold.

In carrying out personal selling actions, the seller will provide as dense an explanation as possible but also as brief and thorough. All information, specifications, and innovations of a product or good will appear in the things conveyed by the seller.

However, this is not easy to do because if it takes too long, then potential buyers, consumers, or potential service users will feel bored. Therefore, use the shortest time with the most complete information possible.

Media That Can Be Used

Personal selling actions in public relations can be done with various media. Some of these media are television, face-to-face, social media, radio, newspapers, flyers, posters, blanks, letters, emails, and so on.

The use of various media can be adjusted to the needs, types, delivery objectives, and things to be achieved by personal selling actors. This can be distinguished because society is also very diverse.

For example, personal selling that is done face-to-face is selling when meeting directly with the public, visiting certain locations, and so on. It should be understood that this type of action can only be done in a very short time because people tend to be doing other activities when meeting a seller.

Then the next example is television. Television tends to be less used by young people, but people in the age range of 40 to 50 years and above still use television as entertainment. Therefore, if the company's target is people in that age range, then television can be the right media to use.

The next example is social media. Social media reaches almost all groups, namely children from 13 years old to adults.

Social media is the most affordable choice today because it is cheap and easy, content can be customized in the form of pictures or videos, and communication can also take place on social media. Therefore, if the target consumers are young people, social media is the right and affordable choice.

Media in the form of newspapers, flyers, and posters can also be used for possible conditions such as on the streets. The reason is that people tend to rush to a place so sellers must adjust to this and provide sufficient information through posters, leaflets, and newspapers.

Furthermore, it can be seen that whatever media is used, the goal is still to reach consumers to use the services or buy the products offered by the company. Hopefully, after reading the information above, you can apply the right personal selling method to offer services or products and build a good public image in the community.
