Baco, Oriental Mindoro - The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)—Mindoro Oriental District Engineering Office has finished building a road that makes it easier, safer, and faster for people in Barangay Mayabig in Baco, Oriental Mindoro to go about.
District Engineer Salvador E. Abad told DPWH MIMAROPA Regional Director Gerald A. Pacanan, CESO III, that the project included a 48.40-meter covered canal to help control floods. The road is made of concrete and is 5.00 meters wide and 0.20 meters thick, with a layer of gravel underneath that is 0.20 meters thick.
The new concrete road has made it easier for residents, farmers, and local businesses to get to their destinations. It now only takes 15 minutes to get there. The improved road network also supports the economy by making it easier to get agricultural goods to market faster and by opening up opportunities for tourists in the area.
Barangay Mayabig is famous for its natural features and cultural heritage. Improved mobility and accessibility are expected to help the town flourish and tourism grow as well.
DPWH said that the project is part of its ongoing effort to develop infrastructure in remote areas, which will help promote fair growth and long-term sustainability across Oriental Mindoro.
