/ BINUS International’s Miss Cambodia Steps Into 2024 Miss International Spotlight
BINUS International is thrilled to honor the recent victory of one of its alums, Chanreaksmey Loy, who has achieved the prestigious title of Miss Cambodia 2024. This win exemplifies BINUS International’s mission of empowering graduates to carry forward its values of fostering talent and building a brighter future for their communities and nations.
Loy’s victory has propelled her onto the global stage. She proudly represented Cambodia at the Miss International 2024 competition in Tokyo, Japan, bringing her unique cultural perspective and advocacy for Southeast Asian culture to an international audience.
A 2022 BINUS International Fashion Design program graduate, Loy initially joined the university through a dual degree program in partnership with Northumbria University. Despite her short, six-month tenure at BINUS, Loy maximized her experience by gaining invaluable knowledge and forging connections that she attributes to her professional and personal growth.
Multilingual and globally minded, Loy is proficient in Khmer, English, Mandarin, and Indonesian, which enabled her to thrive in diverse environments and deepened her appreciation for Indonesian culture, particularly within fashion.
Loy’s passion for cross-cultural fashion led her and fellow students Shafa Praditya and Jennifer to establish the fashion brand CAHYA. The trio debuted their collection at Paris Fashion Week in 2022, presenting an innovative fusion of Indonesian and Khmer cultural elements.
Their showcase at the iconic Westin Paris Vendome captivated notable fashion industry figures, drawing attention to the beauty and sophistication of Southeast Asian heritage through modern design. This event was a highlight in Loy’s career and a testament to her commitment to representing Southeast Asian culture on the world stage.
Loy’s dedication to fashion and culture didn’t stop at Paris Fashion Week. As a passionate advocate for traditional heritage in contemporary contexts, she took on an internship with SOE Jakarta, a prominent Indonesian fashion brand known for integrating traditional motifs with modern flair.
Her role as an intern assistant designer allowed her to deepen her understanding of the fashion industry while working with a brand that shared her vision of cultural fusion. Loy further expanded her skill set and cultural outreach through her freelance TikTok Talent Consultant role with the ASEAN Foundation, where she used social media to spotlight cultural diversity and promote positive regional representation.
Following graduation, Loy continued her professional journey as a full-time marketing executive for Zando Group in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Despite a demanding schedule, she remained committed to personal growth and community outreach, using her social media platforms to share insights into mental health and cultural pride. This dedication to self-improvement and cultural awareness fueled her motivation to participate in the Miss Cambodia 2024 competition, ultimately leading to her victory and her role as a representative of her home nation, Cambodia, on a global stage.
Reflecting on her journey in the Miss Cambodia and Miss International 2024 competition, Loy credits BINUS International’s robust support system and educational opportunities for shaping her career.
She particularly values the friendships and connections she made through the student exchange program, which provided her with a supportive network that has continued to enrich her life and work. The faculty at BINUS International also played a significant role in her development, offering insightful guidance and constructive feedback that she carries with her in her professional endeavors.
In Loy’s words, “BINUS International provided me with not only knowledge but also a supportive environment where I felt encouraged to pursue my goals and share my culture with the world.” As she looks to the future, Loy is determined to continue showcasing Southeast Asian culture on global platforms, illustrating that tradition and modernity coexist beautifully in fashion.
BINUS International takes immense pride in its alums, who consistently demonstrate excellence, innovation, and a commitment to positive change. Loy’s achievements exemplify its vision for graduates who contribute to society by doing what they love.
Her triumph as Miss Cambodia 2024 and her participation in Miss International reflect her dedication to promoting cultural awareness and appreciation. BINUS International remains committed to empowering students like Loy to pursue their dreams, contribute meaningfully to their communities, and inspire others.
