Honi Soit releases complete program for Student Journalism Conference

Honi Soit
preview

Honi Soit, the student newspaper at the University of Sydney, has released the complete program for its national Student Journalism Conference (a.k.a. Stujocon).

Stujocon will be held at the University of Sydney from 15-18 August.

Recently announced events include workshops on graphic design, creating student media and zine-making, as well as interviews with speakers including Will Glasgow, Melina Marchetta, Max Chalmers, (A)manda Parkinson, and Cassie Derrick. Additionally, there will be a plenary to debate student media and its role in Australian journalism and politics.

Print copies of the 20-page program are available at the University of Sydney campus at Honi Soit newspaper stands.

An online version of the program is also available on the conference's website

The conference will have over 120 student journalists from across the country, making it the largest gathering of Australian student media on record. It will feature many talented and high-profile journalists and writers in the media and creative industries.

2025 also marks the centenary of student media in Australia, as the nation's first student publication, Farrago, began in 1925.

Stujocon's successful publicity campaign has led to even more student publications attending, including Gamamari (UNSW) and Pelican (UWA).

The campaign will ramp up in the two weeks preceding the conference, with promotions at the University of Sydney's Semester 2 Welcome Fest (4-5 August), and the Student Representative Council's Radical Education Week (11-14 August). Copies of the program will be distributed at both of these events.

All conference events are free to attend, and catering will provided during the daytime. Tickets can be reserved here

Quotes attributable to Imogen Sabey, Honi Soit editor and conference director:

"With only two weeks to go until the conference begins, it's clear that many people are excited to see our events and hear our fantastic speakers, and we've had lots of support from the public. We warmly encourage everyone to attend to celebrate student journalism with us."
